Guests in a short term rental are harder on furniture than most homeowners. Suitcases get dragged across floors, sofas become beds, and a dining table might see five different families in a month. A few choices up front can save you from replacing pieces every season.
1. Start with the sleeping count
Most Kelowna rentals are booked by how many people they sleep. Before buying anything else, decide how many beds the space can honestly hold. In a one bedroom condo, a sofa bed or a cabinet bed in the living room can add a second sleeping spot without giving up the living area during the day.
2. Pick fabrics that clean easily
Performance fabrics and tighter weaves handle spills, sunscreen and lake days far better than loose or delicate textures. Darker or patterned upholstery hides wear between deep cleans. Washable slipcovers and mattress protectors are worth it on every bed.
3. Choose solid, simple frames
Wobbly legs and fussy hardware are what fail first. Look for sturdy frames, metal or solid wood where it matters, and pieces without lots of moving parts that guests can break.
4. Leave walking room
Rentals photograph well when they feel open. Measure your rooms before you shop and leave clear paths around beds and the dining table. Smaller scale pieces often make a condo feel bigger in listing photos.
5. Plan for storage
Guests need a spot for luggage and coats. A dresser, a bench with storage or a few hooks by the door keeps the space tidy and saves you cleanup time.
6. Buy where you can see it in person
It is hard to judge comfort and build quality from a photo. Sitting on a sofa or testing a mattress before you buy helps you avoid pieces that will not last a busy summer.
